In total Duncan has 35 standing poles, some can be glimpsed as you drive through the town but the major poles are in the main section and are well worth stopping for and taking the time to look at closely and read their history.

#3 Cedar Man with talking stick

This totem is the worlds largest in diameter.
The talking stick traditionally gave the person holding it the right to speak and say all that he or she had to say without interuption.
Great respect was given to the talking stick as it allowed for full consultation in matters of importance to the council.

The age of the tree represents the wisdom required before speaking.
This totem has appropriately been placed infront of the provincial buildings and courts.
